A quick tutorial showing how to chain devices with 'Randomize Controller' to produce a 'Transformer' panel flip effect on exploded faces.

This is an awesome effect, however I am wondering if you could explain how you are using the two different planes in the randomizer section? Does this make it possible to add several animations to one object? I could see this being used along with the shift gizmo to perhaps build an effect that "builds out a logo from one direction to the other, if that makes sense. But you would have to control the animation so that the slide and rotation flowed with the logo and appeared as the gizmo moved over it. Do you think this would be possible?

Hey dude, sorry for the delay! Yes you are absolutely correct that you can create a logo build with that technique, however layering animation from multiple objects to a single object with Controller Randomizer is not currently possible. As it is, for each selected object it overwrites the PRS with the PRS of one random object in a list. That doesn't mean you can't use Copy Keys to blend animation though.. ;)

I have put together a few examples of an in & out transition with Controller Randomizer..

To try them out: Open up the scene, load up the preset, select the ATK mesh and click the play button on the sequencer.

Here's the breakdown of what is going on..

Explode - Breaks apart mesh into objects
MAXScript - Centers pivots (need to integrate this into explode natively)
Point Parenter - Parents mesh objects to points, so they are at position [0,0,0] locally
Controller Randomizer - Copies PRS from reference object that is also at [0,0,0], because it was point parented before hand.
Shift - Shifts keys along timeline
Scale - Increases the span of each object's animation randomly to create variation
Train - Smoothes out easing

Example 1

Shift uses a gizmo to determine offset.

Example 2

Align Pivot Rotation is used to align pivots to point at a dummy, creating the effect of expansion.

Example 3

Shift uses Prism an alternative for a gizmo to cascade left to right.

I hope these help :) Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply Andru, I appreciate it. I have been looking at the demo files you put up and there is some interesting stuff going on. I am going to play with these some more and get myself more acquainted with ATK so I am able to use it to its full advantage.
